COFT was created by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2004. However, state funding was not available until FY2007.

COFT has four legislated responsibilities:

1) Identifying firefighter needs and
setting firefighter training goals for both career and volunteer firefighters

2) Interacting with the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security

the firefighter incentive

Currently for Tax Year 2007
there are three versions:
- $200 Training Tax Credit
   for first time 2007 participants
- $200 Training Tax Credit
   for first-time 2007 participants
- $400 Training Tax Credit
   with additional requirements

It is still possible to submit applications for prior years. See Tax Credit Programs

Tax Credit Forms for 2007 are now available and approved by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
