Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit Programs:
1. Form 1A $200
- For any volunteers applying for the 1st time1 in 2008
- For any volunteers who had been previously approved, had not completed but were working towards Volunteer Firefighter Training Practices (VFFP), Firefighter I (FFI), or Equivalent Program and had earned at least 6 points of continuing education firefighter training by December 31, 2008
2. Form 1B $400
- Volunteers who were previously approved for a $200 tax credit
AND
- Who had finished VFFP, FFI, or Equivalent Program by December 31, 2008
AND
- Who had taken an approved Homeland Security (WMD, CBRNE, NIMS) course2 and 6 points of continuing education firefighter training in 2008
1. A 1st time applicant needs 12 points of eligible training, as listed on the 2008 Equivalency Chart, taken in any previous years.
2. For the 2008 Form 1B, NIMS taken in either 2008 or 2009 counted towards the Homeland Security requirement. However, if using a 2009 NIMS for a 2008 Form 1B, a different Homeland Security or NIMS course must be used with the 2009 application.
